Hey guys... a long awaited update I'm sure. Here is a website I finished a few weeks back and I also designed their business cards. The website was a theme I designed for Drupal content management system. The only thing in the website that is not CSS is the logo. Everything else is managed by the CSS files.

Swine Flu Pop Up Banner...

I've been doing some work with a new client called Chester Packaging near Cincinnati, OH. First I did some die line work and then they wanted me to design a pop up banner display. So here is what I did..

They gave me an image of three pigs they wanted used. Being it was a tiny web image I decided to draw each pig on it's own in pencil. I then scanned it in at 300dpi and colored it in Photoshop.

And this was the final design I came up with. They also provided the wording. Hoping to work with them again on this kind of stuff.

Custom Christian Shirt Design...

Hey guys. Here is something I recently finished for a missionary. He described what he wanted and I did the shirt design for him. They plan to wear these shirts in a race they are running in.

Also since my last post I put up art work for sale at http://www.artfire.com/users/je_illustration . I actually managed to sell a pencil drawing I did for my Yoda painting. My next project will most likely be a tiny portrait in water color. Maybe I'll try a work in progress of it.

These designs are original art work by me and will not be like those common tee shirt designs you see ripping off secular logo brands.

My marketing post cards...

Well I'm finally getting my marketing post cards printed soon. After my wife convienced me, I put a "mother's day" special on portraits until mother's day. Big 10% off all portraits. I'm happy with my design on the post cards. I may even use the setup for my new business cards.

The white boxes on the one side(back?) are spaces for postal regulations provided by the site I'm using to print these. Space for stamp, address, and barcode the post office puts on these. Enjoy.

Missionary Prayer Card...

One of my recent projects I did was for a missionary in Ukraine, Bro. Chris Rue. Bro. Rue is a missionary out of our home church and has been on the field many years. He told me this prayer card is probably one of his best ever. I am also designing his letterhead. So that one should come soon.

It's been long time...

Wow... what a long time since I've been on here or even posted something. Sorry to whoever likes to check out my new stuff. I've been sort of busy lately packing. We are getting ready for a move to Toledo, OH. As that is where we believe God wants us right now. A door was open.

Well yesterday I finished this quick sketch. I bought a WACOM tablet a long while ago and really haven't tried drawing on it. So yesterday I thought I'd fart around with it and practice for a animal portrait I'll be doing this month. Granted this sketch is on the computer using a digital pen, but the actual portrait will be hand drawn probably in colored pencils. So here is the practice sketch. If you can guess what type of dog it is, I guess I"m in good shape?!

Since the last post I've been working on website stuff. I created a website using photoshop and dreamweaver for Evangelist Bro. Brian DelGrande. You can view it HERE.

However I wanted to allow missionaries and evangelist the ability to edit their own content so they wouldn't have to rely on me to update the site. So I sought out to learn Drupal (www.drupal.org). It's a free source web builder using SQL data base. This means I actually had to use coding... errr. So I remade Bro. DelGrande's site which can now be seen at http:www.perfectingofthesaints.net.

Well the most recent think I've finished is a website design. www.peru4christ.org was done for missionary Daniel Doughtery who is obviously going to Peru. I tried to keep it simple so importing it into Dreamweaver wouldn't be a headache. I'm pretty happy with it and the missionary was to. Pretty soon I'll add a photo album for him. So please check it out and check back again to see the photo gallery.

I want to thank those who took the time to vote on which logo they liked best. And if you haven't noticed.... Version 4 won the poll. I'm quite happy with how that one looks and will go along with the winner of the polls. After all the people have spoken... even if it is 10!

Business Cards...

Well here is a recent project I completed. I was asked to design two business cards. The one sided card is my design and idea. The two sided business card, the back was my design, and the front was the client's idea they had in mind. They liked both of these and decided to have them printed. The client seemed really happy with how they turned out. So here they are.

Higher Ground Graphics is my new company name. I thought the name told more of what I do than illustration did and opens up possibilities of more work that I am able to do. More Baptism Sketches...

Well at least I'm sure that's what some of you feel "one day as a thousand years" with my postings lol. Well here are two more sketches for the baptism painting I plan on still doing. I originally planned on water color gouche for the painting, but the missionary may want more of a computerized version. But we'll see what he thinks. My next sketch of this is going to be of one where Jesus is coming up out of the water as per his request.

I'm not making any promises on when to check back. lol. Any where here are the sketches. Leave comments, feedback, pointers, "I hate" it's, etc.

Baptism of Jesus

How is everyone? I've been sort of busy and not much drawing really. Just trying to keep up with freelance from the company that laid me off(yeah I know). Since my last post I did pass all my apple macintosh exams. I am officially a Apple Macintosh Technicion. I am doing some contract for http://www.computer4schools.com/. The owner most likely is also helping me get more graphic design work.

But to the subject title at hand. A missionary in German wants me to paint him a picture of the scene Jesus being baptized by John the baptist. It's probably going to be 4ft wide. I don't think I've ever painted something this big. I also have to figure out what medium and how to get it to Germany not damaged. Bellow will be images of a few sketches I did. I have a few more, but not scanned in quite yet.

I am using reference photos and my anatomy book for help. I'm not all that great yet on the anatomy side of things. I'm considering using normal watercolor or possibly gouche(very thick water color) for my medium. I've also tossed the idea of doing this digital, but I think they want some original art to hang. Well enough blabbing and here are the sketches. These sketches were done kinda quickly and without using an eraser. I'm trying to do that more in order to build speed and accuracy.

This sketch is from a photo reference of a boy being baptized. My plan was to use this sketch, but change it up making the two physically look more like Jews, facial hair, muscles, etc. But the missionary is looking for a different view. Hopefully my next sketch will be what he's looking for.

This was a quick sketch of what I want the background to be. It was taken from a photo reference of the supposed place in the Jordan where Jesus was baptized. Chances are the subjects are going to be quite big and the background I have sketched will be less used.

IS ANYONE THERE?!?!?! This is the time where I give that same apology all the blogs give when they are no where to be found for months. Well this is where we are at. We have currently moved out of our house(due to foreclosure coming) and moved into a very nice apartment above a store front. We also have a very nice landlord. As of Dec. 18th I got laid off from my production art job at Oarsman Sportswear. The company that owned us decided to shut it down and move everything to their location in another state. I am however doing some freelance for them working at home. I am also currently studying to get my macintosh certification so I can work for the guy who use to service our macintosh computers at work. I would be working on mac laptops... so that's kind of exciting. Don't worry i'll still be drawing! Anywho enough history and on to why this blog spot is here.

This is my recent portrait I completed. It was done for a customer who is also my sister in-law. It was a Christmas gift for her fiance and he was very happy with it. I always love to see people get their portrait. It makes you realize that it is special in doing these for people. Usually people don't get "excited" and such when they get a quick 10min. drawing. Sure they enjoy it and like it of course. But when you go into this kind of detail and likeness... they get more attached to the piece.

Here is my most recent project. This is a portrait of my friend's/client's nephew. Not sure if they like it yet or not since I just put it in a frame today and still need to send it to them. Hopefully they don't mind me post this up. My regret is I didn't do it as a work in progress. Maybe I'll remember on my next portrait to do that ;). The "ghost lines" you see in the image was not drawn like that. That is from my crappy HP scanjet 4670 vertical scanner... it sometimes puts those lines in my scans for no reason at all.

Well... I'm still alive!!! LOL sorry it's been MONTHS since I have put something up. Hopefully people are still viewing this and waiting in anticipation for the next thing. The last picture I posted of the fireman went no where... as soon as I finished that I was told someone else already did a poster for him... I guess he thought the guy wasn't doing it or something, who knows.

Wow... sorry it has been so long since I posted on here. I've been pretty busy. We are looking to sell our house and move into an apartment, so we are able to pay our bills lol. I've also been busy with the tape ministry in converting cassettes tape to CDs. Any way, enough excuses and on with the art.

Seen here is a the pencil rendering and then the colored version using Photoshop CS2. I'm not totally happy with the drawing... but what artist is ever happy with their own art work?! The other parts of this poster will be a police man and in the middle an emergency scene.

For this post I will share with you a prayer card I finished recently. It's my first time doing one. I did this for a close friend of mine who is starting to do evangelism. He is sent from a church down in TN, but his home church is now the church I attend. He is a great preacher and I totally enjoy hearing him preach.

They were pretty happy with what I did. We got a pretty good deal through www.gotprint.com which was 5,000 cards for 99 dollars, but it was only for a front design, other wise I wouldn't have made it so busy on the front.

If you would like a cassette tape or cd of his preaching just contact me. He has preached quite a few times at our church, and since I run our tape ministry... I can hook you up with some of his preaching.

Watercolor Rose, work in progress...

This is a recent watercolor I did of a rose. I enjoyed using the watercolors. The only other time I used watercolor was in college for a frog I painted. I probably will do some more of these. I will be showing you the reference photo, and a few pictures of the art work as I was working on it. I'm sorry I don't have all of the pictures when I was working on it.... it seems after the last one before the finished work, I must have forgotten to take pictures... I finished this right before our baby was born on 11-6-06.

My First Blog Post...

Hello to all who are viewing this. I hope you will continue to come back and view my art work and work in progress. This is new for me, so please bear with me. Always any comments and suggestions are welcome.

For my first two posts I'll post some new art work I finished I think at the end of last year. For this post I'll be putting up a painting I did of Yoda from Star Wars. I got the picture from a comic convention I went to. They had this life size statue of yoda, so I snapped a picture of it.

I used gouche as my medium. And I was attempting to do the same style Alex Ross does in his art. But I sort of feel short of his excellent work. You can see his things at www.alexrossart.com to see what I'm talking about. I first started by masking off everything but the background. I painted the background by doing shades of black into green, then I used a simple sponge and dipped on side in the black and the other in green. I had no clue what this was going to look like and I hate doing backgrounds, so I figured who cares if I mess it up lol.

After that I took off the liquid mask I used on it and began just painting in black. Once I got the detail to where I wanted I then added the colors in. I know my green is off for this skin tone... but this was only my second time using gouche. I first attempt in college turned out quite well.

I'll also attach the pencil drawing I did for this. Currently this painting is still up for sale. I attempted to sell it on Ebay, but got no bids... if you are interested in buying it, please contact me.
